Genshin Hangout Quests Guide

Sometimes, I feel that Genshin Impact is several games crammed into one. Rhythm games, hide and seek, cooking simulators – you name it, and Genshin Impact has done it. So the fact that the game has a dating simulator feature in the form of Hangout Events hardly surprises me.

To explain in simple terms, Hangout Events are quests where you go on a platonic date with one of the many four-star characters in the game. During those dates, you must work hard to impress them to get a good ending.

Clearing Hangout Events is easy-peasy thanks to the mechanic’s lax affection system. However, obtaining every good (and bad) ending might be challenging for rookies who have never played dating simulation games.

Given that I have played a fair share of traditional visual novels, I can show you how you can win the other party’s heart. In this Genshin Hangout Quests guide, I will explain everything about Hangout Events, from their gameplay to their rewards.

Hangout Events Overview

Hangout Events were released permanently during the 1.4 update of Genshin Impact. These quests act as Story Quests for a selected pool of four-star characters in the game.

Every Hangout Event is choice-based, which means that the choices you make during an interaction determine the course of the story. A specific set of choices can lead you to one of the many endings of that quest, and each Hangout Event has up to 5-6 endings.

Your choices will also affect the Heart Meter of a character. You must ensure this meter stays intact throughout the quest to succeed in the Hangout Event.

You must play the same Hangout Event multiple times to obtain every ending and achievement.

Prepare For Your Big Date: Requirements to Unlock Hangout Events

As much as I wanted to hang out with Bennett and Ninguang, I couldn’t start their Hangout Quests from the get-go. As it turns out, you must fulfill particular prerequisites before hanging out with your best bud.

Reach Adventure Rank 26

Hangout Events can be unlocked only after you reach Adventure Rank 26. This prerequisite makes sense because players would have already met some relevant 4-star characters when they hit Adventure Rank 26.

However, only some Hangout Events are unlocked at Adventure Rank 26. Other quests are unlocked once you hit higher Adventure Ranks.

Complete the Required Quests

To access a particular Hangout Event, you must complete some prerequisite quests. Complete at least the Prologue: Act 3 to unlock the Hangout Events of some Mondstadt and Liyue characters.

Collect Story Keys

You need 2 Story Keys to unlock a Hangout Event. A single Story Key can be obtained by completing 8 commissions. Besides, you can hold only 3 Story Keys at a time.

How to Play Hangout Quests?

Hangout Events are a watered-down version of visual novels, and their mechanics aren’t rocket science. Once you understand the basics, you can easily ace any Hangout Event.

Unlock the Hangout Events

To access Hangout Events, click on the Quests menu. Choose the Story Quests option on the screen’s bottom left side. You will see the Story Quests of 5-star characters displayed before you. But we are not concerned with those quests.

Click on the option circled in red to access the Hangout Events menu. Unlock the Hangout Event of your preferred character through Story Keys.

You can kickstart the quest by clicking the ‘Start Playing’ option.

Choose the Correct Response

Once you begin a Hangout Event, you will converse with a character face-to-face. During this interaction, you will be presented with a list of choices now and then. These choices play a pivotal role in determining which ending you will get.

If you aren’t using a walkthrough, you might choose a response that displeases your buddy. When that happens, a single heart in the Heart Meter will break. Heart Meter indicates the happiness of the character.

Once the Heart Meter is drained, you will fail the quest. Stay polite to your buddy to keep them happy!

Endings and Checkpoints

Your choices will take you through a specific branch in the Hangout Event’s map, eventually leading to your destined ending. Every ending offers rewards, which can be claimed by returning to the Hangout Events tab. Click the ‘Claim’ button located inside the active Hangout Event.

Just obtaining one Ending isn’t enough, though. Restart the Hangout Event again and choose options you hadn’t chosen before. The options you selected in earlier playthroughs are marked with a green tick.

If you dread playing through the same story, you can start playing from a ‘checkpoint’ from the active Hangout Event’s map.

Choose different options than the ones you chose earlier to proceed through a separate branch and reach an alternate ending. Repeat this process to obtain all endings of the Hangout Event.

Hangout Events Characters

So far, around 14 characters have their own Hangout Events. Other four-star characters don’t have any quests yet, but Hoyoverse may release them soon.

To turn your date into a raging success, I have provided a detailed roadmap of every Hangout Event’s Hangout Memories. Some endings are difficult to obtain, so I have also included some tips to tackle these endings.

Barbara – Wellspring of Healing

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 26 and complete Prologue: Act 3 (Song of the Dragon and Freedom)
• Achievements: A Line That May Be Crossed, An Idol’s Last Line of Defense, Mondstadt’s Spiciest Surprise

To hang out with Barbara, you must free her from her persistent fans’ clutches. The most persistent out of them all is the infamous Albert. You must drive him away by making valid excuses, such as telling him how Wolvendom is dangerous and convincing him that Barbara is not around.

Beidou – When The Crux Shines Bright

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 30 and complete Chapter II: Act 3 (Omnipresence Over Mortals)
• Achievements: Honorary Crux Member, Wine Unburdens, Guyun Buyers’ Club

Beidou’s Hangout Event involves a thrilling treasure hunt and helping her at the Crux. However, two endings in her quest can only be obtained after you respond to a quiz presented by her properly. Pay attention to the advice of the Crux members and answer accordingly to get the ending you want.

Bennett – Fantastic Voyage

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 26 and complete Prologue: Act 3 (Song of the Dragon and Freedom)
• Achievements: Fantastic Voyage: Prologue, Archaic Lord of Lightning and Blitz, The Power of Luck+

As a Bennett main, my heart hurt when I saw how Bennett’s bad luck continued to haunt him even during his Hangout Event. Try your best to dodge his bad luck when you spend time with him in a domain, wilds, or town.

His Hangout Event is pretty straightforward, except you must solve a frustrating puzzle in the Temple of the Wolf domain during one of his endings. Solve the puzzle by activating the switches in the following order: switch with three torches > switch with one torch > switch with two torches.

Chongyun – Signs of Evil

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 26 and complete Prologue: Act 3 (Song of the Dragon and Freedom)
• Achievements: Evil is Banished, Behold; Mine Evil-Espying Eye!, Red Hot Chili Popsicles

Chongyun’s Hangout Event involves a Test of Courage or casual chit-chat in the Liyue Harbor. Most endings can be obtained through dialogues.

However, you must complete a Hide and Seek minigame with some kids in Idle Amusements ending. The kids will hide behind trees, crates, and stairs, so watch out for them.

Diona – The Cat And The Cocktail

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 26 and complete Prologue: Act 3 (Song of the Dragon and Freedom)
• Achievements: Diona Special, Stirred, Not Shaken; But There’s A Catch…, Kitten Queen

Diona’s Hangout Event thoroughly satisfied the feline lover inside me; no kidding. During her quest, we can either hang out with the Cat Tail’s cats or ask Diona to make a special drink.

Pro tip: If you want to get on Diona’s good side, praise her bartending abilities and listen to whatever instructions she gives you throughout the quest.

Faruzan – A Confounding Conundrum

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 40 and complete Chapter III: Act 5 (Akasha Pulses, The Kalpa Flame Rises) and Tighnari’s Story Quest
• Achievements: Optimal Solution, To You in a Hundred Years, Mechanics: From Beginner to…?

You must help Faruzan with a problem during her Hangout Event. Alternatively, you can bring her back to Pardis Dhyai. Most of the endings can be obtained by clicking the correct choices.

Gorou – The Canine General’s Special Operations

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 40 and complete Chapter II: Act 3 (Omnipresence Over Mortals) and Kokomi’s Story Quest
• Achievements: General of Watatsumi, Changing Times, To Tell or Not To Tell, That Is The Question

In Gorou’s Hangout Event, you must help him overcome his insecurity about his tail or distract him from Yae Miko’s teasing. The important thing to remember while doing his quest is to not lose any fights since losing a fight will lead to a bad ending. 

Shikanoin Heizou – Trap ‘Em By Storm

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 40 and complete Omnipresence Over Mortals, Act 2 of Raiden Shogun’s Story Quest, and Itto’s Story Quest
• Achievements: You Thought We Were For Real, Huh?, An Ideal Detective Am I, Sangonomiya Supplications

Don your hat, Sherlock Holmes. In Heizou’s Hangout Event, you will be hunting down a missing vital item on Watatsumi Island. Investigating and tailing people takes up a considerable part of this quest.

Ensure that you investigate every single clue during your playthrough. To tail your targets successfully, hide behind crates and houses. Fences are a safe option too, but they can’t conceal someone entirely.

Ninguang – The Jade Chamber’s Returning Guest

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 28 and complete Interlude Chapter: Act 1 (The Crane Returns on the Wind)
• Achievements: Megrez’s Companion Star, You’ve Got to Have Reserves, Overprotectiveness+

Ninguang might be the richest woman in Liyue, but she’s a hard worker who strives to protect her country from enemies. In her Hangout Event, we glimpse into her life as the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing as her assistant.

Noelle – Chivalric Training (Act 1)

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 26 and complete Prologue: Act 3 (Song of the Dragon and Freedom)
• Achievements: A Maid of Strength and Virtue, …For I Am Duty Bound, A World Known Only Onto Roses

Noelle’s Hangout Event is the game’s easiest and most romantic quest. You must either help her with knight training or help her out with small tasks in the city itself.

Noelle – Knightly Exam Prep

• Prerequisites: Obtain all Chivalric Training’s endings, and complete Prologue: Act 3 (Song of the Dragon and Freedom)
• Achievements: Stress Relief, Invulnerable Maid-Knight, Mondstadt’s Note-taker General

Noelle seems to be Hoyoverse’s favorite child because we meet her again at another Hangout Event. This time, we have to help her relieve the stress of her upcoming Knightly exams. Do carry a Steak and Mondstadt Grilled Fish since they’ll be handy in unlocking some endings.

Sayu – Yoohoo Art: Seichou No Jutsu

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 30 and complete Chapter II: Act 3 (Omnipresence Over Mortals)
• Achievements: Taller By Half, Mujina-Class Ninja, Dish Effect: Mobility Decreased

Your primary job in this Hangout Event is to drag Sayu to work or help her dodge any work. You will encounter many enemies during this quest. Since most enemies are located near bodies of water, use Cryo characters to freeze them easily.

Kuki Shinobu – The Gang’s Daily Deeds

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 40 and complete Interlude Chapter: Act 2 and Itto’s Story Quest
• Achievements: Arataki Gang Chief Advisor, One More Look!, Upstairs…

Shinobu’s Hangout Event might be the funniest one among all Hangout Events because, come on, who can’t laugh at the Arataki Gang’s shenanigans? Help the poor girl clean up the mess caused by some junior members of the gang.

In a few endings, some gang members will flee to avoid Shinobu’s wrath, and you must hunt them down. You will find them on the roof of a house, under a bridge, and near some crates beside the Kairagi.

Thoma – A Housekeeper’s Daily Chores

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 30 and complete Chapter II: Act 3 (Omnipresence Over Mortals)
• Achievements: Everyone’s Happy, Housekeeper Extraordinaire, From the Sea Never Returning

You can hang out with Thoma in the Kamisato estate, play with some cats and dogs outside, or hit the streets with him to reminisce about Mondstadt.

Yun Jin – A Song That Knows Grace

• Prerequisites: Reach Adventure Rank 28 and complete Interlude Chapter: Act 1 (The Crane Returns on the Wind)
• Achievements: The Lingering Song, May This Moment Be Made to Last, A Strict Master Trains A Talented Pupil

During this quest, you can either hang out with Yun Jin after her opera performance or get some performance tips from her before the show. This Hangout Event can be completed by choosing the correct dialogue options.

Rewards

When I wanted to expand my minuscule Primogems stash, I turned to Hangout Events. Hangout Events not only offer Hangout Memory-specific rewards but also Achievement rewards.

In Hangout Events with 5 endings, you will get 20 Primogems after obtaining the first, third, and fifth ending, respectively. Moreover, you will get only 3 Speciality Dishes instead of 6.

Players will also get additional 30 Primogems through specific Achievements for every Hangout Event.

FAQs

Conclusion

Many Genshin Impact players, including me, are acquainted with 4-star characters at only surface level. But can we even blame ourselves? The roster of 4-star characters is huge, making it impossible to interact with them deeply. Also, 5-star characters often overshadow the existence of their 4-star counterparts.

That’s why Hangout Events felt like a welcome change. Though these characters were initially introduced as badass Vision holders who can throw a mean punch or two, Hangout Events showed me they are just ordinary people trying to live their lives. They have their fair share of mundane worries and insecurities, just like you and me.

Besides, these light-hearted and funny quests gave me a much-needed break from the grim Archon and World Quests. So if you haven’t tried the Hangout Events feature yet, give it a shot. Who knows, you might fall for these loveable characters on the way.
