From an outsider’s perspective, Genshin Impact will look like a standard fantasy open-world game. But only when you start the game, go through quests, or fight some Genshin enemies do you get to know about the vastness of it. You will come across individuals wandering in the wild just looking for a lost item. As well as individuals who are part of secret organizations.
Genshin Impact has vast lore, characters, and connections making you tread carefully. Who knows, the person you are trusting your life with may betray you the moment you are weak. At first, I thought I just had to fight monsters and find my other sibling, but as the story continued, I learned about some horrors.
While there are genuine characters in the game, they’re also the ones who only have evil in their heart. It’s rare that you will find these individuals along because they believe in unity in strength. To achieve their ulterior motives, these individuals are often in groups. But if there’s bad, there’s good and a bit neutral as well.
In this Genshin Impact factions guide, we will go through various groups or organizations that influence the events of the game. I’ll accompany you on this journey to get an overview of these organizations and figure out which side of the line they are.
What Are Factions?
Just going with the dictionary meaning for Factions is enough to justify what we will go through in this guide. I will go through some groups or organizations in the game that have a vital role in the storyline. Though some of them have a neutral stance, others are more black and white.
You will come across individuals from these groups in the game and interact with them at numerous events. But soon enough, you will realize their true colors and have to put them through the test of time.
Although, I do believe that you cannot judge the whole organization just because one member turned out to be a rotten apple. But, you cannot give a green pass otherwise.
In this guide, I will go over hand-picked organizations that are in the game and describe my experiences with them. I will put short remarks under them, so you know what you are dealing with if you encounter them in the future.
Frankly speaking, sometimes the story takes turns so wildly that judging someone on their affiliation is cloudy. But, I’m sure as we progress through the game, we will get to know truths that may shake our core.
Without further ado, Let’s go over the various factions in the game and see what they have accomplished so far.
List of Factions
Abyss order is said to be former residents of the destroyed civilization of Khaneri’ah. Khaneri’ah is said to be a nation without any god and had technology that could rival the gods themselves. You will see some Abyss monsters and even your other sibling on their side acting as a leader to them.
It’s been observed through a few quests where you get an encounter with another sibling that the Abyss order follows them. So far, it’s been observed that they are against the Gods and want to avenge the injustice that happened to them 500 years ago.
You will find mention of them in the manga and other in-game resources where Mondstadt’s nobility is penned. A notable dictator Lawrence clan is featured in the manga where they oppressed and enslaved people under their regime. The manga has focused on this point and Vanessa’s victory against them.
I’d recommend you to go through our manga guide to know more about the past events of the game and easily connect the dots. Some families like Gunnhilder Clan, Lawrence Clan, and Ragnvindr Family have importance in the game’s story.
The Adventurer’s Guild is an organization spanning across the entirety of Teyvat that deals with adventurers. You interact with Katheryne every day to claim your commission rewards. With their headquarters set up in Snezhnaya, the guild provides all sorts of services to adventurers and hands out quests that require attention. At various events, you will come across Katheryne, who asks you to help out in essential matters.
Church of Favonius
They’re an organization in Mondstadt that worships the Anemo archon and has many members. You will find most of their members in the Favonius Cathedral, where Barbara is a deaconess. You will receive a few quests from their members like Grace, Victoria, and Vina and venture out to fulfill their requests.
Even though Rosaria is a nun in the church, she rarely attends Church activities. I would say you should take a look inside the Favonius Cathedral because of how well designed it is, and it’s a soothing experience to sit inside.
The Fatui is one of the evilest organizations in the game. I’m sure only a few can rival them in the field and are always willing to cross the limits of their moral compass. They are an organization under the command of Her Majesty, the Tsaritsa, Who is also the Cryo archon of Snezhnaya.
You will encounter the Fatui members at various events and even get to meet their harbingers. If you want to know more about them, I highly recommend you go through our Fatui Harbingers guide. They are forces you shouldn’t mess with.
A faction that has relations to the fallen nation of Khaneri’ah, whose Royal guard was Dainsleif. There are mentions of this dynasty that they used to rule the kingdom of Khaneri’ah, which faced destruction hundreds of years in the past. Dainsleif mentions being a Royal guard of the same, and like hierarchy, it’s possible that there were ranks among the kingdom.
In archon quest, we get to know about the story of another royal guard Halfdan who served beside Dainsleif. Knowing his backstory hurt me because he was loyal to the nation that suffered horribly.

Sumeru academia is a prime institute in the entirety of Teyvat, from where most prominent scholars and researchers are from. Lisa is one of their scholars and is even considered to be their best graduate of the past two centuries. Although she refers to the Traveler as “cutie” and occasionally tries to flirt, you cannot ignore that she’s a master of her art and has a plethora of knowledge.
At numerous events, you will come across researchers from the Academia, and interacting with them will lead you to some shocking conclusions. Indeed they are among the smartest in the world.
The Crux fleet is a group of sailors and people who are under the command of Captain Beidou. Their main ship, The Alcor, is an eye candy to visit the anchored near the Guyun stone forest shores. You can reach the ship by gliding, swimming, or making a Kaeya bridge.
Beidou is a strong captain who commands the fleet and is always ready to take on challenges and bounties that are impossible to do. Besides being a fearless captain, the Crux fleet takes up to Beidou’s name and will do anything for their Captain!
The seven are usually a term referred to as the seven gods of Teyvat. Each of the gods commands over their element and nation with their own ideologies. Also known as Archons, they have supreme control over their elements and can do unimaginable feats with their abilities.
From the game, you get to know about the level of their absolute power, and there are three archons that are playable in the game: Venti, Zhongli, and the Raiden Shogun. It’s a speculation that we may get Dendro archon in a few months, but that’s all a wild guess for now.
The Four winds are the beings that were appointed by the Anemo archon to overview the Mondstadt City. But from an NPC named Kaushik, we get to know about a hypothesis that there may be the fifth one. Though some of his claims were invalidated by the story facts, it is indeed an exciting claim he’s making.
For now, we know about the names of the three winds, Vanessa, Dvalin, and Andrius. If you don’t know about Vanessa, then I highly recommend you go through our manga guide to learn who she was in the past.
A notorious organization, full of thieves and rogue bandits that you will face in the overworld and in quests. Treasure hoarders are criminals who will commit crimes on a daily basis disrupting commonfolk lives and stealing stuff here and there. Though there isn’t a hierarchy among them like the Fatui, who are highly organized and have influential connections, Treasure hoarders are quite unorganized.
You compare them to common enemies like Hilichurls, who can be found even in the farthest of places but are always annoying to deal with. Suppose you are looking for a precious item or something that could be valuable. In that case, I’m pretty sure you will encounter some Treasure hoarders then and have to fend them off before you can continue.
Hexenzirkel is an organization that consists of powerful witches like Lisa and Klee’s mother, Alice. From the game, you get to know that Lisa and Alice are mighty and have abilities that can give anyone a surprise. Though Lisa always maintains a calm and composed look, she’s said to be one of the most prestigious graduates from the Sumeru academia. Alice is also one of the Elders of the organization and an alchemist by profession.
You can imagine how powerful she is when she organized the Golden Apple Archipelago island by herself to surprise Klee. You can deduce that this organization indeed has influential members in it. Who knows, we get to meet more members in the future. But for now, I would say that if their members are this much power, then it’s better not to make an enemy of them.
Knights of Favonius
They were founded by Vanessa in the past when Venti woke up from eternal slumber and oversaw the security and safety of the people of Mondstadt. Currently, they are under the leadership of Jean, who is the Acting Grand Master.
From the first encounter with Dvalin in the city, the Traveler meets Jean, Kaeya, and Lisa, where Amber accompanies them. The Traveler is given the title of the Honorary Knight for their commendable feat of saving the city and helping others on various occasions.
Yakshas were beasts in the past that were ordered by the Geo archon to fight off evils of the archon war and subdue them to protect the land. From the lore, we know that there were many Yakshas, but five of them stood out among the rest
. In the previous major event, Perilous Trails, we got to know about their backstories. It was confirmed that the only remaining Yaksha alive is Xiao. We went through the story of a deceased Yaksha Bosacius and the relationship with other Yakshas. Though the story was indeed heartwrenching, we witnessed the horrors of karmic debts that drove the Yakshas to insanity.
We got to know about Xiao’s other name, Alatus, and how he and other Yakshas were close with each other. All Yakashas had a mask-like icon to them and related elements with which they fought the evil and protected the land under the Geo archon.
Adepti are mythical beasts that live in Liyue and have powers that pertain above the mortal realm. You can say that they are always looking out for a threat against the people of Liyue and will always be ready to face them to protect their people.
In one specific quest, we observed that their powers can grant abilities to individuals. We had to fight Osial, and the Adepti helped the Traveler with their powers to strengthen themselves.
Ministry of Civil Affairs
They are an official organization that is under the supervision of Liyue Qixing and see the welfare of the common public. They administer the whole of Liyue and man an official dialogue with the diplomats from other nations. Liyue, a hub of economic growth, is always under their watch, and they ensure to work diligently to supervise all sorts of activities.
In a nutshell, they work just like what a ministry would work in real life in the game. Whether its’ public safety, welfare, or security, the Ministry of Civil Affairs has everything under its watch.
The Liyue Qixing is the governing body of Liyue which consists of high-ranking officials and follows the policies that were laid out by the Geo Archon. Liyue Qixing is an old organization because it was formed after the Archon war and oversees Liyue for all sorts of administrative tasks. They are the ones who are superior to the Ministry of Civil affairs and command the city’s welfare and security policies.
There are several divisions in the organization, and you can call it a government-like body that upholds all sorts of rules and domains in the Liyue. Notably, Ningguang is the Tianquan of Liyue, and she oversees that all the Laws in the city are followed. While other members have a low profile in their status, Ningguang is quite a personality and has a charming aura to her.
Feiyun Commerce Guild
Feiyun Commerce guild is managed by Xingqiu’s father. It is a powerful and influential guild that trades silk and prints books on an organizational scale. Belonging to Liyue, you notice that Xingqiu gets a lot of respect from people and is often recognized. Although he’s got a studious and polite reputation, he’s adventurous enough to take on injustices happening and always believes in superior moral ethics.
From his story quests and various interactions in the game, we get to know that his brother is oriented toward the success of the guild and always devoted to it. Xinqiu is like an oddball among them but still maintains his composure even in the direst of the situations.
Wansheng Funeral Parlor
They are a Funeral business in Liyue where Hu Tao serves as their director. Even the Geo archon, Zhongli, is a consultant to the parlor. This business-driven entity provides services related to funeral rites.
Although the business has flourished and sought to send spirits on a peaceful journey, you cannot deny that Hu Tao wants the business to boom more.
A Clan with limited members practices a martial art that surrounds the teachings of an Adeptus named Guhua. Having ascended to Celestia, the style consists of swords, polearms, or both.
Xingqiu, a practitioner of sword art ” Rain Cutter,” is quite proficient in it. There’s “Light Piercer” pertaining to polearms and “Life Ender” for the ones who have command over both polearms and swords.
They are the military force of Liyue that reports to Liyue Qixing, and on various occasions, you will have an encounter with them. During Rites of Descension, when the Millelith will chase the Traveler, Childe comes to the rescue and helps to escape from the site. Usually, you will meet them in Liyue and on quests pertaining to Liyue.
The game has numerous Millelith NPCs, some of which will give you quests to complete and grant rewards for successfully completing them. Kun, a Millelith NPC, will provide you with world quests like Return of the Jade Chamber and Fishing for Jade, both of which can be efficiently completed. Feel free to check out our Return of the Jade chamber guide to know more about it in detail and hop on an adventurous journey.
Grand Narukami Shrine
Grand Narukami Shrine is an organization like the Church of Favonius but worships the Electro archon instead. The head shrine maiden Yae Miko is rather clever in getting her ways and has a long history with Ei. When you arrive in Inazuma, you will come across her after a couple of events, and she will help you in all sorts of quests.
Not only will she guide you to achieve her goals, but she will save you from Scaramouche in a deadly encounter. The Shrine also offers all sorts of activities and aims to help people who are in need of immediate attention.
A governing body under which the Tri-commission follows the commands of the Electro archon, the Raiden Shogun. The three commissions have a separate domain in which they have their rules and oversee all sorts of matters in Inazuma.
While all organizations are under the rule of the Shogunate they cannot let a mistake happen. Although in the story, you get to know that some commissions have internal conflicts that need to be resolved.
An army under the command of the Raiden Shogun in Inazuma. Just like an army of a nation, they serve the Raiden Shogun and are always willing to heed her orders. They have several ranks in their leadership and oversee all sorts of security matters related to the nation.
Shogun’s army is ready to take on anything, with soldiers serving under different commissions. There are various events in the game where you get to interact with them and know them in brief. Throughout your adventures in Inazuma, you will meet them on several occasions.
A group of three commissions that supervise the entirety of Inazuma. The three commissions, namely the Tenryou commission, Kanjou commission, and Yashiro commission, are a part of this entity and work toward a common goal, which is protecting Inazuma and looking for the welfare of the people.
You will notice that there are all sorts of ranks and hierarchies in Inazuma. Still, Tri-Commission have to agree on a topic to execute it. With three entities on the board, there have been instances when some decisions were vetoed and weren’t presented to the Raiden Shogun.
It is one of the commissions in the Tri-commission that is led by the Kujou clan. Under the temporary leadership of Kujou Kamaji, the clan oversees Inazuma’s affairs to some extent and has Kujou Sara as their General.
In most of the story, you will get to know and interact with Kujou Sara and know her personality. Though she may look very strict from the outside, she has a soft heart and is ready to take on actions that can improve lives.
Her encounters with Arataki Itto is always a fun read. You will come across her many times in Inazuma and sometimes cooperate with her to achieve a common goal. Although, there are a few instances when she will be hostile towards you, so beware of that.
Yashiro commission is an organization that is part of the Tri-commission in Inazuma, which is under the leadership of Kamisato Ayato. They are more oriented toward the cultural and festival activities in the region, as seen in the event Hues of the Violet Garden.
Both KAmisato Ayato and Kamisato Ayaka are the epitome of excellence in their fields and hold up to their name’s reputations. Mostly you will deal with Kamisato Ayaka at the beginning of the Inazuma’s storyline, but soon enough, you get to know the Yashiro Commissioner Kamisato Ayato himself.
I wished for Kamisato Ayato because I liked his personality and intelligent way of handling affairs with ease. Even the ninja clan, Shuumatsuban, is under the command of the Yashiro commission, which helps them perform all sorts of activities to protect the nation from imminent dangers.
The third organization among the Tri-commission oversees boundary affairs of the nation and is quite strict in its measures. While they were strict, it doesn’t mean that some of them didn’t have skeletons in their closets.
In the story, a few members of them cooperated with the Fatui to do harm to the nation but were eventually caught up before they could do any damage. They are currently under the leadership of Hiiragi Chisato, who is acting as the clan’s head.
Our cute little Sayu is a member of a secret ninja organization that is under the Yashiro Commission. Under the leadership of Kamisato Ayato, the organization is always looking out for threats to Inazuma and uses the necessary means to tackle them.
Just like you observe in any ninja group, they are well organized and execute their plans well. Although Sayu may look like a lazy cutie pie, she’s very skilled in her art and accomplishes her goals without holding back.
Also known by the name of resistance, they are a military force under the leadership of Sangonomiya Kokomi and are against the vision hunt decree. You will meet them in numerous quests on Watatsumi Island in the game and get to know all sorts of people. Gorou is the General of the army and has a lot of respect from his comrades.
Being a brave and valorous General, Gorou shows camaraderie for his subordinates and is always willing to fight for the cause. Another notable member was Teppei, a former Captain who fell to delusion’s side effects. I would say he was one of the most friendly people to the Traveler and always cared for him.
As you progress through the game, you will see Inazuma’s internal conflicts solved to an extent and peace setting upon all sorts of things. Though, beware of the Fatui because they have plans in the nation and have committed some crimes that cannot be let go of. The reason Teppei fell to his untimely demise was because of the Fatui, and the Traveler won’t let that slide at all.
International Trade Association
They are an official organization in Inazuma that, as the name suggests, help in organizing foreign trades in the nation. They usually deal with the business perspective of the commodities and help foreigners to ease in Inazuma.
A Few Questions
Let’s go over a few questions that will get your brain’s juices flowing and hop in to know more about them. Let’s jump straight into them!
Question: Do you think the Fatui is an evil organization?
Answer: I can’t say they’re straight away evil because somewhere, I’m still a bit biased because of Childe. But as I said, I shouldn’t be judging the whole organization because of a single individual. For now, I’m inclined toward the evil side because Fatui’s actions have been evil that even harmed innocent individuals. Some of their harbingers are purely evil and go to any extent to achieve their motives. They don’t care if they are using innocents for human experiments or digging graves for their own kin. They are the manifestation of evil.
Question: What are your thoughts about the Abyss order?
Answer: Abyss order is one of the most mysterious beings for me in the game. The thing is that your other sibling supported them and joined forces with them. They follow your other sibling’s commands and even address them with honorifics. Though we’ve met our other sibling at certain moments, there are many questions that are still unanswered. Not only are they a mystery, but characters like Dainsleif are, on the whole, another level of suspicion.
But from the story, we get to know that the Abyss order might be the individuals of Khaneri’ah who were cursed to become monsters in a Cataclysm that occurred 500 years ago. But still, you cannot sympathize with them as they are really triggered to see you. There were some quests where we had to interact with Abyss members, and they tried to use us or backstab us in the process. There are many questions that only the time will answer, and we have to wait for the moment to come.
Question: Are these all the organizations in the game?
Answer: Not really. Plenty of organizations of varying levels in the game are not mentioned here. But, I’ve hand-picked these organizations based on my experience in the game and want to inform beginner players about them. I remember starting the game and coming across various NPCs and characters in quests. I didn’t have any clue about their background. I didn’t even know that the Fatui had foot soldiers and used to think they were rogue members of the Fatui.
In a few months, we will come across a new nation in the game, and it’s a speculation from my end that we may see a lot of new factions. Who knows, maybe we will get to know further about the existing organizations. I’m excited for new content to be featured in the game and to learn about various characters.
For now, I tried my best to pin down the factions that I felt were worth mentioning. But also, I do have a disclaimer that there may be some that missed my eye. I agree that there may be some information that is a bit vague to beginners, but even if you glance over the factions, you will be able to draw conclusions crystal clear.
There are some factions that I’m in awe of, and there are some which are purely evil. Nonetheless, having good and bad elements makes a game thrilling, mysterious, and surprising. We all need that unexpected element in the story to feel a kick of it.
That was a bit about Factions from my side, and I hope you got to know more about them. I’d advise you not to skip dialogues if it’s a vital quest because that will lead to confusion.
To learn about some quests, you can check our quest guides that feature exquisite quests in brief. And, if you are in for some characters, then hop onto our character guides. The time has come to take a leave, and I hope to meet you in another exciting guide pretty soon. Take care!
