Kuki Shinobu Genshin Guide

Kuki Shinobu is the deputy leader of the Arataki Gang. However, in a much more accurate sense, she is the actual leader since she works tirelessly to keep everyone in line, including Arataki Itto. Her work ethic, intelligence, and sense of professionalism have gained her the appreciation and respect of many citizens in Inazuma. Many questions why she still remains in the Arataki gang when her resourcefulness can be used in different institutions.

She comes from a family of Shrine Maidens, with their service to the Narukami Grand Shrine spanning generations. It is difficult for most people (including her family) to see her make her allegiance with the Arataki Gang since they are seen as unruly troublemakers. She uses her knowledge of legal practices learned in Liyue to help save her colleagues from punishments and potential jail time.

In this Kuki Shinobu Genshin guide, I will be covering the following topics listed below:

  1. Ranking based on her abilities (Main DPS, Sub DPS, Support, Exploration)
  2. Ascension material and statistics
  3. Attacks and Talents
  4. Constellations
  5. Weapons and Artifacts that are suitable for her
  6. Team Compositions

Ranking

Abilities
Image from Wiki Fandom

Kuki Shinobu is a newly released character (as of version 2.7); therefore, the community and myself are still experimenting and configuring her into different team comps. Due to her kit scaling off HP (although Elemental Mastery plays a secondary part), most players would slot her in as a Support character or a Healer due to her Elemental Skill.

This would allow us to use her in different team comps, not as the primary healer but as a secondary healer. However, she does have the capability to be an excellent Electro Battery for team comps with Yae Miko or Raiden Shogun.

Her Electro application is very consistent through her Elemental Skill, which would help us use her in different Electro-based reactions. I would recommend using Kuki Shinobu in Electro Charged teams since I noticed great synergy between Kuki Shinobu and characters such as Ayato, Tartaglia, and Xingqiu. She is a great character with a very impressive skill set that players can fully utilize by equipping the perfect artifacts.

Since her healing output requires her to lose 30% of her health before healing, it immediately puts her at a disadvantage compared to other healers in Genshin Impact. This does not mean that she is the worst healer. However, players would have to protect her since she loses health in order to heal the teammates through her Sanctifying Ring.

Unless paired with another healer such as Diona or Kokomi, it would be difficult to fully utilize Kuki Shinobu in the Abyss unless a very dependable shielding character such as Zhongli can be used in the same team.

Ascension

Runic Fang
Image from Wiki Fandom

In order to ascend Kuki Shinobu, the materials listed below are needed. All of the items mentioned below can be found within Inazuma, with the exception of the Runic Fang, which is the boss drop item of the Ruin Serpent located in the Chasm in Liyue.

This could be annoying for the newer players who have not unlocked Inazuma or the Chasm yet. Therefore, they might have to wait for some time before using her in their team comps.

To ascend Kuki Shinobu to level 90, you will need the following character ascension materials:

  1. Naku Weed –  Players can use the interactive map from Mihoyo to locate this item or grow this item in the Serenitea pot after purchasing the seeds in the Realm Depot
  2. Runic Fang – Players can collect this after defeating the Ruin Serpent
  3. Vajrada Amethyst Sliver/ Fragment/ Chunk/ Gemstone – This can be collected after defeating Electro normal bosses or Electro Trounce domain bosses; players can also convert these (slivers, fragments, chunks, gemstones) from other elemental stones by using the dust of Azoth (purchased in Paimon’s Bargain Shop).
  4. Specter drops – Kuki Shonibu uses enemy drop material from Specters (yes, the most annoying enemy in Genshin Impact); they are found exclusively in Inazuma and Enkanomiya (as of version 2.7) in various elemental forms such as Anemo, Geo, Hydro, Pyro, Electro, and Cryo. (Spectral Husk, Spectral Heart, Spectral Nucleus)

Talents

Since Kuki Shinobu is primarily a Support character, players can use her with a strong Electro Main DPS or Hydro Main DPS. Her talents allow her to be used as a Support character and as a Main or Sub DPS character if players do not have reliable DPS characters. However, I would not recommend this since her damage output is not significantly high. In true nature to her role in the Arataki Gang, Kuki Shinobu’s Elemental Skill sacrifices her health to heal herself and her on-field teammate. Her talent priorities are Sanctifying Ring> Gyoei Narukami Kariyama Rite> Normal Attack: Shinobu’s Shadowsword.

Normal Attack: Shinobu’s Shadowsword

Normal Attack -Performs four rapid strikes.

Charge Attack – Consumes stamina to perform two rapid strikes.

Plunge Attack – Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Sanctifying Ring
Sanctifying Ring Kuki Shinobu creates a grass ring that surrounds her and periodically deals Electro DMG every 1.5 seconds. However, the grass ring is made at the cost of 30% of her total HP. This is not a problem because the grass ring heals the active on-field character, this healing scales off Kuki Shinobu’s max HP.
Gyoei Narukami Kariyama Rite
Gyoei Narukami Kariyama Rite Kuki Shinobu pierces the ground with her sword, and this triggers a field of Electro DMG that scales off her max HP. This field appears in front of Shinobu; although the AoE is relatively small compared to most Elemental Bursts, the Electro DMG dealt is very rapid and continuous. Players must keep an eye on her health because when her health is:

Above 50% – Elemental Burst duration is 2 seconds and seven ticks of Electro DMG.

Less than or equal to 50% – Elemental Burst duration is 3.5 seconds and twelve to thirteen ticks of Electro DMG.

Breaking Free

Breaking Free When Kuki Shinobu’s HP is below the 50% mark, her Healing Bonus is increased by 15%.
Heart's Repose

Hearts Repose Kuki Shinobu’s Elemental Mastery will additionally boost the abilities of the Sanctifying Ring.

Amount of health received via healing – increased by 75% of her total Elemental Mastery

Amount of damage dealt – increased by 25% of her total Elemental Mastery

Protracted Prayers

Protracted Prayers Players obtain 25% more rewards when Kuki Shinobu is dispatched on an expedition in Inazuma for 20 hours.

To ascend Kuki Shinobu’s talents up to level 10, you will need the following materials:

  • Mora – 4957500
  • Crown of Insight – 3
  • Teachings of Elegance – 9
  • Guide of Elegance– 63
  • Philosophies of Elegance– 114
  • Spectral Nucleus – 18
  • Spectral Heart – 66
  • Spectral Husk – 93
  • Tears of the Calamitous God -18

Tears of the Calamitous God can be obtained from the weekly trounce domain boss Raiden Shogun: Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto.

Constellations

Kuki Shinobu’s constellations are focused on enhancing her overall kit; however, there are more improvements to her Elemental Skill than her Elemental Burst. At C2, her Elemental Skill duration is increased by 3 seconds. This increase provides players extra health through healing, Electro DMG, and more energy particles. If players want to include Kuki Shinobu as a permanent team member, I would recommend obtaining her second constellation, or if players are lucky enough, a C6 Kuki Shinobu would definitely be the perfect fit for the team, especially if players are looking for a character for an Electro Charged team.

She could be used in a similar fashion to Fischl in terms of Elemental reactions because they are able to deploy a consistent stream of Electro DMG that can be used to pave the way for reactions such as Overload, Electro Charged, and Superconduct. From the test runs and the reactions from the community, Kuki Shinobu seems to be a success. However, we do not have a designated artifact set or weapon for her as of version 2.7.

In the same way that Kuki Shinobu is a great deputy leader, she is also a great Support character if used correctly. Using her as a Sub DPS character is another option that can be explored, but not as a primary healer. I would not recommend that role for Kuki Shinobu.

Additionally, Kuki Shinobu’s Elemental Mastery will increase by 150 for 15 seconds when she reaches below 25% of her max HP. This effect can be triggered once every 60 seconds.

Weapons

Since Kuki Shinobu is primarily a Support character that scales off HP, the 5-star weapon options are very limited. However, we can expect to see more weapons included as the game progresses. As for now, we will focus on the 4-star weapons available that can help in our team comps.

4-Star Weapons

Iron Sting

Four-piece bonus: When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members is increased by 20%, and their Shield Strength is increased by 30% for 3s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5s. This effect can still be triggered even when the character using this artifact set is not on the field.

Two-piece bonus: Increases Healing done by 15%

Four-piece bonus: For 10 seconds after casting an Elemental Skill or Burst, Teammates receive +20% additional healing

Artifacts and set pieces Reason
Noblesse Oblige – four-piece This artifact set is a blessing that can be used on almost every support character and one that I would highly recommend for Kuki Shinobu. If players wait untill Kuki Shinobu’s health is low and use her Elemental Burst, then players can use the Elemental Skill with added ATK buff before the 12 seconds expire. Players can maximize Kuki Shinobu’s damage output while providing a damage buff for the other teammates.

(Support)

Tenacity of the Millelith – four-piece This artifact set can help the team in a similar way to the Noblesse Oblige set by enhancing both the damage and the shield strength, and the two-piece set bonus can provide an additional health bonus which will be beneficial for the healing aspect of Kuki Shinobu’s kit and her overall damage output.

(Support)

Maiden Beloved – four-piece This recommendation is for players who are aiming for a healer build, although I would recommend using her as a Support character. If players do not have a proficient healer, I would recommend this as one of the alternative healer builds. This artifact set is entirely focused on healing. Therefore players cannot expect to have any other buffs besides healing-oriented enhancements.

Reason This Artifact is always HP. This Artifact is always ATK. Depending on the Main Stat that is selected, players can look for substats that are lacking in total. I would recommend using an HP% Artifact, primarily due to her Elemental Skill HP requirement. Depending on which stat is lacking, players can fill the gap by going for one of the three Main Stats listed above.

Early game players can use artifacts such as The Exile and Traveling Doctor as four-piece artifact sets until the artifacts mentioned above can be obtained with the desired Main Stats and Substats.

Team Comps

Since Kuki Shinobu is a newly released character (as of version 2.7), the Genshin Impact community is still running experiments on which team comp is best for her. However, the overwhelming response is that she has to be a Support character and nothing else for the more veteran players. She does not require high investments, nor is she a complex character to use. Therefore, I do not think that players will run into trouble when using her.

By using her as a battery, Electro applier, and healer, players can utilize her for almost any team comp. The team comps mentioned below might be a bit unorthodox, but these are the most optimal based on the information available.

Free to Play

In this section, we will be having a look at the free-to-play options and new player-friendly team comps. These teams require a minimal amount of investment, and the weapons are relatively easy to obtain as well. Once again, I will be focussing on teams where she will be able to help her teammates while being able to balance the team by giving balance.

Kuki Shinobu Support Team

  • Main DPS – Kaeya
Kaeya
Image from Wiki Fandom

Having Kaeya as the Main DPS makes this team a Superconduct team; accompanied by Lisa’s Electro application, the team will benefit greatly and the additional healing capabilities of Kuki Shinobu and Electro application. Kaeya can efficiently deal the majority of the team’s total damage.

Weapon – Dawn Harbinger

  • Sub DPS – Lisa
Lisa
Image from Wiki Fandom

Lisa acts as an Electro applicator since her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst apply a generous amount of Electro on all enemies in the vicinity. Since her Elemental Burst remains on-field and deals damage, it is easier to pave the way for Elemental reactions.

Weapon – Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers

  • Support – Kuki Shinobu
Kuki Shinobu

This version of Kuki Shinobu specializes in generating energy particles for the team while being a steady Electro DMG dealer through the constant use of her Elemental Skill.

Weapon – Iron Sting

  • Healer – Barbara
Barbara
Image from Wiki Fandom

As the best free-to-play option healer, Barbara comes into this team primarily as a healer. However, her Hydro application is not essential and may even hinder the Superconduct reactions, unless players would not mind Freeze reactions in the midst of the Superconduct reactions.

Weapon – Prototype Amber

Best Team Comp

Kuki Shinobu Support Team

  • Main DPS – Kamisato Ayato/ Tartaglia
Tartaglia

Kamisato Ayato
Image from Wiki Fandom

The Main DPS role in this team comp is given to a Hydro character in order to allow ample of Electro Charged reactions to take place when Kuki Shinobu’s Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst are activated. Players can switch between Kamisato Ayato and Tartaglia as the Main DPS since their overall roles are relatively similar. However, when using Tartaglia, players must keep an eye on his Elemental Skill to keep a low cool down.

Weapon for Kamisato Ayato – Haran Geppaku Futsu

Weapon for Tartaglia – Polar Star

  • Sub DPS – Kazuha
Kaedehara Kazuha

Kazuha is great with crowd control and aiding Elemental reactions through his Swirl reactions. I would highly recommend using him in almost any team comp. Players can obtain very high volumes of damage through his high Elemental Mastery builds.

Weapon – Freedom Sworn

  • Support – Kuki Shinobu
Kuki Shinobu
Image from Wiki Fandom

Kuki Shinobu’s role in this team comp is to provide Electro in order to create Electro Charged reactions. An additional benefit of having her on the team would be that her Elemental Skill can heal players if they are in a tough spot, because Diona’s healing requires players to use her Elemental Burst.

Weapon – Freedom Sworn

  • Healer – Diona
Diona
Image from Wiki Fandom

Diona plays the role of primary healer in this team comp and provides shields through her Elemental Burst. She could aid the team through Freeze and Superconduct reactions as well.

Weapon – Sacrificial Bow

Kuki Shinobu Support Team

  • Main DPS – Eula
Eula
Image from Wiki Fandom

Since Eula has a physical build, players will not be going for extravagant elemental reactions. Instead, the team comp will focus on providing subtle Superconduct reactions and being a battery to help Eula maximize her damage output.

Weapon – Song of Broken Pines

  • Sub DPS – Raiden Shogun
Raiden Shogun
Image from Wiki Fandom

Raiden Shogun can be used to generate energy particles and also as a burst DPS. Since her Elemental Burst deals high volumes of damage, she can always take over from Eula to deal damage.

Weapon – Engulfing Lightning

  • Support – Kuki Shinobu
Kuki Shinobu

Kuki Shinobu’s role is to apply Electro DMG while generating energy particles for the team. Her healing aspect is not as crucial since Kokomi is one of the best healers in the game.

Weapon – Freedom Sworn

  • Healer – Kokomi
Sangonomiya Kokomi

Kokomi is the primary healer; she can be used to carry out Electro Charged and Freeze reactions as well. With her consistent healing abilities, this team can function without a shielding character.

Weapon – Everlasting Moonglow

Mistakes to Avoid

As with all characters, we need to pay attention to a few key points when using Kuki Shinobu. Especially if players are using her without a character to provide a shield, due to her kit, she is a little “squishy,” which means that it is relatively easy for her to be knocked out. However, there are ways to work around it.

  1. According to her kit, in order to maximize her usefulness, her health must be critically low, similar to Hu Tao. However, she does not deal high volumes of damage. Instead, Kuki Shinobu extends the duration of her Elemental Burst by a few seconds, which will allow players to deal additional damage. In order to prevent her from being knocked out, players are recommended to use a shield or another healer.
  2. Her overall damage output is not that great in comparison to most of the other characters in the game. Therefore I would advise players to refrain from using her as a Main DPS character. However, she can be used as a Sub DPS character if needed, although I would highly recommend using her as an Electro Support character.
  3. I would recommend players to build her based on HP artifacts, with Elemental Mastery and Energy Recharge as substats. This would help with her overall damage output and healing as well. I believe that an Electro DMG bonus goblet would be wasted on her. However, if players need to use her in a Sub DPS role, the Electro DMG bonus might help with the Electro damage output, although it will make a dent in her healing and overall damage.

How to Obtain Kuki Shinobu?

  1. The Wish System – Kuki Shinobu is available on every wish banner as a potential 4* star option. There is a chance you can get her in every wish you make. This is increased on banners where she is a featured character.

FAQ

Question: Is Kuki Shinobu an Oni?

Answer: No. Kuki Shinobu is not an Oni; she comes from a family of Shrine Maidens.

Question: Is Kuki Shinobu an Electro battery?

Answer: Yes, she can be used as an Electro battery if she is equipped with the Emblem of Severed Fate Artifact set. Further, she can be used alongside characters such as Raiden Shogun, Yae Miko, and Fischl to help gather more energy particles. I believe that Kuki Shinobu can be used with Yae Miko as a battery because Yae Miko has a very high Elemental Burst energy need.

Question: Why did Kuki Shinobu join the Arataki Gang?

Answer: Kuki Shinobu is different from her family; they come from a long line of Shrine Maidens, with their service to the Grand Narukami shrine going back multiple generations. However, Kuki Shinobu does not see her duties as a Shrine Maiden in the same light as her family. Instead, she prefers to live her life by forming her own path. Therefore, she left her position as a Shrine Maiden and pursued her studies in Liyue.

There she meets Yanfei, they form a good relationship; and as we saw in the Perilous Depths event, they are quite close. However, she decided to join the Arataki Gang and became their deputy leader. The gang allows her to move freely and not be tied down to one role; she acts as their legal counsel, often saving them from being arrested or even thrown in jail.

Question: Is Ocean Hued Clam a good artifact option for Kuki Shinobu?

Answer: This artifact set is a viable option for Kuki Shinobu, although the four-piece bonus might not be fully utilized. It is not a terrible option, but I would not recommend this artifact over the artifacts mentioned in the article.

Conclusion

Kuki Shinobu is a great character with a very enjoyable playstyle. She can be used in different team comps, which makes her a versatile character. Since she is the first Electro Healer in the game, players can finally incorporate her into the void that was there before her release.

As a character, her backstory and personality are very well written, and it enhances her character by giving her a unique perspective on things. Her kit subtly reflects her personality, and I believe that is a huge win for the character developers because if they can keep introducing fresh takes such as this, more and more players flock to the Genshin Impact fanbase.

Since she is a 4-star character, her abilities are not very impressive, but it is not terrible either. I hope that we get a more personalized weapon or artifact set to fully utilize Kuki Shinobu since the ones available now are more generalized.
